- Renewable resource| Bamboo grows back into an adult plant within 3 to 5 years after harvest; it grows nearly 2 feet in 1 day! There is no need to replant or cultivate the land as bamboo continues to grow new shoots each year from an already established root system.
- Easy to grow| Bamboo plants are naturally pest-resistant – no pesticides are needed to protect it. Likewise, no agricultural fertilizers or chemicals need to be added to make it grow. Unlike cotton, which requires a lot of care and a lot of water to grow, bamboo grows easily in different climates and requires much less water!
- Soil Protection| Most crops need to be completely removed before new plantings can be made, resulting in erosion and washing away of the top soil. When bamboo roots are left in place, they prevent erosion and retain nutrients in the soil for next season’s crop.
- Clean the air| Bamboo plants release 35% more oxygen than other trees and can absorb nearly 12 tons of CO 2 per hectare per year!
- Reduce waste| Most parts of the bamboo plant have some use and very little waste.
As you can see, growing bamboo is good for the environment. In addition, because it is an easy crop to grow, it helps local communities economically because they have a low investment in it.
