MOLD GROWTH

Bamboo becomes moldy for a variety of reasons. If you don’t know how to clean and maintain the bamboo bath tray, the surface mould of the bamboo product will occur. But what is the reason for the mould to grow? The most common ones are summarized as follows.

Hydrocarbon
The fungus is derived from very fine spores in the air that occur in fruits and cause the biological breakdown of bamboo. It supplies starch and other carbohydrates (sugar) contained in bamboo stalks. At the advanced stage, damage will appear on the surface of the bamboo.
Oxygen
Like almost every other creature on the planet, the fungus must breathe. The limitation that oxygen supply slows growth. However, as long as the humidity is high, some fungi can survive at very low oxygen levels.
Humidity and temperature
If the environment is too humid, all fungi will grow. 40-80% is the optimum humidity level for its rapid growth. Fungiss are most comfortable at temperatures between 25 ° C and 35 ° C. Therefore, you need to be very careful and check these times to make sure you are safe.

Types of fungi that attack bamboo
There are many types of fungis, which are very dangerous not only for items but also for health. To eleminate mould, you need to know all the details about the form type, cause, and prevention.

Surface mols
Surface mods grow at the intersections with the surface of the bamboo bath caddy. It doesn’t affect the strength of the bamboo and is easy to clean.
Stain Fungi
These bamboo fungis can penetrate the round bamboo not only from the intersection but also from the knot after the branches have been removed. Attacks are indicated by shades of gray-blue / black discoloration on the surface in the form of spots and stripes. It reduces the aesthetic appearance, but does not affect the resistance properties of bamboo (except for violent attacks).
Decay Fungi
These bamboo fungi cause the most severe damage and growth within the cell’s lumen. Enzymes only break down cellulose and hemicellulose, leaving lignin behind and can cause brown rot. Lignin causes white rot (white rot is more common in bamboo than brown rot). Early dissolution is difficult to detect. Even before a slight color change or weight loss is apparent, the strength characteristics, especially impact strength and bending strength, are significantly reduced. Early damage can be characterized by the moisture of the bamboo. In the post-deterioration stage, the coil becomes a soft, fibrous or powdery mass.

How to Clean Bamboo Bath Caddy Properly

Wash the bamboo bath caddywith soapy water. After washing the bamboo caddy, dry it completely with a towel and let it air dry. Lubrication is required to maintain luster and durability. You can also use a neutral pH floor vacuum cleaner or oil soap to smooth the bamboo bath try and then remove the soap with a soft damp cloth and a dry towel. You can also use a mixture of vinegar and water. Add a cup of vinegar to 1 liter of water. Simply wipe the car with a cloth moistened with the mixture. The vinegar flavor disappears quickly, or you can add essential oils to make it a pleasant flavor. We recommend lavender oil, which is a preservative and has a subdued scent.
You can also add a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid to a pint of water. Clean with a soft sponge or cloth moistened with a solution. You can use a soft toothbrush in hard-to-reach places. A few drops of flaxseed oil or flaxseed oil on a dry cloth will add shine to the bamboo bath tray and maximize shelf life.

Do Not:

  • Dunk or allow the caddy to stand in water. The wood will soak up water and warp.
  • Use bleach. This will stain the caddy and/or excessively dry the wood.
  • Leave a wet bamboo caddy flat to dry. If the board dries on only one side, it will cause the bamboo to warp.

HOW TO GET RID OF MOLD

The most effective way to effectively remove mold on bamboo is some cleaning products available in the market. But, unfortunately, they are really full of chemicals that can be harmful to your health. Alternative methods with lemon oil or vinegar could also do the trick. Remove bamboo mold, white spores, and mildew with a soft brush and clean up the area with a damp cloth. Use lemon oil or a solution of vinegar and water to remove the mold.  Make sure though, to first clean the item with turpentine and to dry it out completely. If you don’t, mold might grow underneath the polyurethane finish and cause blisters.
